Biography :

Masters degree in Musical Interpretation at the Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya (ESMUC)
with Xavier Coll and Àlex Garrobé, Faculty of Music (Honorable Mention) at the National
Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) inside the chair PhD Juan Carlos Laguna and PhD
Eunice Padilla, Classical Guitar Interpretation at the University of Alicante (UA), Spain with David
Russell, Manuel Barrueco, Ignacio Rodes, Carles Trepat, Hopkinson Smith, Nigel North and Roberto
Aussel. Study stays at the Kärtner Landeskonservatorium Klagenfurt, Austria with Marco Tamayo
(2017) and the Conservatory of Music Frankfurt am Main, Germany with Thomas Bittermann (2009).

With a successful international career, Christopher Avilez has participated as a soloist with different
orchestras, such as the Chamber Orchestra of Morelos, the Mexican Orchestra of the Arts, the “Carlos
Chávez” Orchestra and the Simphony Orchestra of Cuenca, only to mention a few. In the international
arena he has been presented in Austria, Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Germany, Italy, Mexico,
Slovenia, Spain and United States.

His discography consists of five CD´s:

• XIII Sonatas for guitar and figured bass by Juan Antonio de Vargas y Guzmán (Veracruz, 1776).
• Imágenes…memoria. Contemporary mexican music for flute and guitar.
• Concerto for Classic Guitar & Jazz Piano Trio by Claude Bolling. Fisis Quartet.
• Sudamérica Seductora. Latin American music Douze Études by Villa-Lobos, La Catedral by
Barrios Mangoré, Sonata Op. 47 by Ginastera and Terruño by Sinesi.
• “Al pie de volcán” Unreleased work for solo guitar by Pedro Ximenez Abril y Tirado (1784-1856).

 

Prizewinner in numerous national and international guitar competitions:

• 2nd prize at the I Concurso Internacional de Guitarra “Ciudad de Mula” Murcia, Spain 2021.
• 2nd prize at the VIII Concurso de Guitarra “Ángel G. Piñero” Cadiz, Spain 2021.
• 2nd prize at the VII Concurso de Intérpretes “Ciudad de Colima”, Mexico 2014.
• 2nd prize at the V Concurso Nacional “Silvestre Revueltas” Durango, Mexico 2012.
• 2nd prize at the X Festival Internacional “Guitarra sin Fronteras” Chihuahua, Mexico 2012.
• 2nd prize at the XX Festival Internacional de Guitarra Morelia, Mexico 2010.
• 3rd prize at the IV Concurso de Guitarra “Ángel G. Piñero” Cadiz, Spain 2017.
• 3rd prize at the I Concurso Nacional de Guitarra Toluca, Mexico 2011.
• 3rd prize at the III Concurso y V Festival de Guitarra (BUAP) Puebla, Mexico 2009.
• 3rd prize at the I Concurso del Centro Universitario Ixtlahuaca, Mexico 2007.
• 3rd prize at the Concurso Nacional de Guitarra Paracho, Mexico 2006.

He has also been a recipient of prestigious awards and scholarships including the Premio Estatal de la
Juventud (2013). Scholarships from the state and national funds: FOECA 2008, PECDA 2018,
Programa de Creadores Escénicos 2011 and Programa de Fomento a Proyectos y Coinversiones
Culturales 2019 FONCA.
